Damien Lancelle was twelve years old when he started playing the guitar, and was admitted two years later in the Conservatoire National de Région in Versailles. After  graduating with honors in 2003, he studied with the French guitar virtuoso Judicael Perroy. In 2006, he moved to Vienna (Austria) to study under the guidance of Brigitte Zaczek at the University for Music and Performing Arts, from which he holds a Master of arts.

He performs regularly as a soloist or with chamber music ensembles in concert halls such as Wiener Konzerthaus, Kharkiv Philharmony (Ukraine), Moscow International House of Music, Teatro Nacional in Santo Domingo, as well as at guitar festivals such as Iserlohn Symposium, Zagreb Guitar Festival, Kutná Hora Guitar Biennial, or Asia International Guitar Festival among others.

He was awarded numerous prizes in international guitar competitions, including:
Internationaler Gitarrenwettbewerb Heinsberg: 1. Prize
Tokyo international guitar competition: 2. Prize
Gitarre Forum Wien: 2. prize
Guitar Foundation of America concert artists competition: 3. Prize

As a recital performer, he plays an 8-string guitar which not only enables him to perform original versions of renaissance, baroque or romantic works, but also to create new repertoire for his instrument by working together with contemporary composers. On this purpose, he performed in march 2015 the premiere of Feuilles d’Album, an original work for 8-string guitar written for him by the american composer Mark Delpriora.
